$700,000 Awarded to Official Passed Over for Promotion

The United Nations Dispute Tribunal has awarded more than $700,000 to a former senior official in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs for breach of contract, a decision the world organization will appeal, said Martin Nesirky, the spokesman for the secretary general. The official, Guido Bertucci, 61, an Italian, resorted to the tribunal after he was not promoted to assistant secretary general in 2008 despite United Nations guidelines that give preference to internal candidates, his lawyer, François Loriot, said. The lawyer for the United Nations, Susan Maddox, refused the tribunal’s demand that Secretary General Ban Ki-moon reveal how the promotion decision was reached. Judge Michael F. Adams awarded Mr. Bertucci $655,000, covering lost wages and pension, including $10,000 because of the United Nations’ refusal to provide the information, and legal fees.

Bertucci deserved to be ASG. P.Civili's post was made for him and should have gone to him for all the contribution he has given to DPADM/DESA.
This is so great...first OIOS finds him guilty of corruption practices and charges him with 30,000$ for losses at the helm of his division. Now Ban Ki-moon denies him a "deserved" promotion...Where does all this end?
You can say whatever for Bertucci but he was the master and compared to our current leadership, and specially Thomas Stelzer he would have been 500 times better.
The UN is so corrupt - that even the most corrupted get screwed over. Way to go Ban Ki-moon!
If Sha Zukang was smart, he should fire Thomas "No-Where-to-Found" Stelzer and replace him with Bertucci. At least Bertucci had style.
Guido's leadership will be missed at DESA, he knew how to make things happen and had the ability to mobilize lots of funds. Jomo and Thomas don't even come close to Guido.
this is the most sophisticated HEIST I've ever witnessed not only at the U.N. but worldwide. A coordinated effort of "top-minds" to legally steer CASH from the UN. GENIUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS BRAVOOOOOOO
Mazel Tov Guido.
to me this looks like someone wanted to get about $700,000 out of the UN and had to find a loophole ...well they found it. Congrats...dude!
hahahah
so let me understand this better - Guido challenged Ban Ki Moon's authority and prerogative to appoint an ASG, by raising the claim that "HE" (Guido) deserved to be the one.
You got to have Guido's imagination, balls and connections as well as to be as shameless and impudent as he is to undertake such an endeavor.
Kudo to Bertucci
